The holidays can be a really challenging time of year when it comes to overindulging. And I don’t mean just food. (Drinks galore!)
Some cocktails are especially decadent and creamy, others are loaded with sugar and even bottles of wine may be offered at a fancy holiday party.
Alcohol can certainly disrupt gut health, but also impair your sleep, affect weight and even contribute to food cravings. That’s why I’ve got the perfect mocktail for you to try. Even as adults peer pressure is real and sometimes you probably don’t even want the drink but feel forced to just “let loose.”
So instead of giving in this year to the booze, try this alternative. This is a gut-friendly option and along with diet, another way to stay in check and balanced this holiday season.
This mocktail obviously has great taste, but also gives your gut a rest from the typical effects of alcohol and added sugar that can disrupt the microbiome.
It’s hydrating, sneakily packed with nutrients, and contains delicious pomegranate. This fruit contains antioxidants, promotes digestion and has anti-inflammatory benefits. It will only take you a few minutes to make and is an eye-catching drink that your guests will definitely want to try as well.
Ingredients
1 cup pomegranate juice (no added sugar)
24 oz sparkling mineral water
4 drops organic stevia
1 orange, freshly squeezed
1 orange, wedged (optional)
¼ cup pomegranate seeds
1 handful fresh mint leaves and stems
4 highball glasses
Step 1
In a pitcher, mix mineral water with pomegranate juice and juice from the orange. Add drops of stevia. Then stir.
Step 2
In each glass, add a few cubes of ice. Pour a few ounces of the drink into each glass.
Step 3
Top with a small spoonful of seeds and add mint leaves with the stem. On each glass add 1-2 orange wedges on the rim if desired.
